Is it okay to bring Kimchi to work/school yet?

Growing up, I wouldn't have dared to pack kimchi for any lunch to be eaten in a closed room situation. But I'm wondering, now that kimchi has gained popularity and is being made with more refined ingredients (fish sauce vs. fermented oysters/shrimp), is it socially acceptable to pack a little kimchi in my lunch?

I've been noticing that many people in my office and classroom bring indian curry or thai food for lunch and no one seems to have a problem with it. Has kimchi reached the same level of ubiquity yet?

I ask because it's always a struggle to figure out what vegetable side to throw in my bento when the obvious choice to round out the meal is kimchi.
