Briefly in LA several days ago.

Only had time for a quick lunch at the Gumbo Shop in NO. Yeah, I's a tourist trap, but the blackened fish appetizer and entree chicken/andouille gumbo was actually not bad. The other two meals I had in LA were at Robin's in Henderson and Mulatte's in Breaux Bridge. Had a cup of seafood gumbo and shrimp etouffee at Robin's and didn't think either was especially good. Enjoyed Mulatte's but mainly because Jay Cormier was playing there the night I went. Catfish was good though and plenty of it--mealed and deep-fried, pretty much the standard way I've had catfish in other parts of the South. Gumbo was nice. Tasted like it had been started with a deeply browned roux and had lots of oyster in it.
