The BREWHOUSE – Santa Barbara – off the beaten path and worth the effort.

Stopped at this local favorite last night and had a GREAT meal. A restaurant without fuss where the food has integrity and the service came with a smile.

I had the Beef Stroganoff, made with small pieces of Filet Mignon in a rich beef stock with caramelized onions and wild mushrooms, then offered over your choice of roast shallot mashed potatoes, risotto or pasta. It was exceptional and at $16.95 a bargain.

Split a gorgonzola salad to start and although this combination of ingredients shows up on many restaurant menus this one was constructed perfectly. Just the right balance of greens, gorgonzola, red onion, tomato and candied walnuts and the champagne vinaigrette married the flavors perfectly. Graciously split onto 2 plates for us it was a perfect size starter salad and again at $8.95 a winner.

The menu is huge offering a large selection of items. Saw people at the table next to us eating what look like a fabulous burger. At another table a group was sharing buffalo wings, a plate of homemade potato chips and a fire roasted artichoke.

Our waiter (in the Sinatra T-Shirt) had a quiet graciousness. Efficient, attentive, always smiling and thoroughly knowledgeable regarding the food and beer selection. He was a delight.

Had a delicious dark beer. Waiters recommendation. Not too heavy but rich and delicious, had a hint of chocolate. Paired perfectly with the stroganoff.

If you’re visiting Santa Barbara I highly recommend you check this place out. I hadn’t been in awhile and having rediscovered it will be back soon.
