Anybody been to the Breakfast Klub in Midtown? My wife and I finally stopped by for breakfast last weekend while we were riding the new light rail. A short and sweet summary: AWESOME!
The Breakfast Klub is located at Alabama and Travis, about a one-block walk from the Ensemble/HCC train station. (Just behind the old Fusion Cafe location, and just a block from the Continental Club for those who know the area).
Anyhow, there was a line out the door when we got there, and the line was just as long when we left. That's a good sign in my mind. If you see a line, don't leave, it moves fast. The line isn't caused by a lack of seating, it's caused by the way you order. You place your order at the cash register before you are seated, and the food is then brought to you at your table.
The atmosphere and decorations are great, had some jazz music on, a very lively crowd. But the real treat was the FOOD!
My wife had the catfish and grits, and I had the "Green Eggs and Ham". My wife's grits were about the best we've ever had, and she's a grits connoseur. The catfish was wonderful as well. Don't be thrown off by this breakfast dish...the odd combination works well. Also on the menu are chicken and waffle, and lots of other great combinations that I'll be trying soon.
My green eggs and ham were also great. The eggs are made to order, and the "green" part of the dish comes from the sauteed chives, spinich and bell peppers. It's excellent.
The coffee was great, and the prices were not any more than you'd pay for breakfast at your typical diner. All in all, it was a GREAT start to our day of traveling to the Museum District and the downtown drinking afterwards.
