Breakfast in Berkeley/Oakland for jaded palate

lqf | Sep 27, 200412:23 PM     17

Looking for basic breakfast fare well prepared--perfectly scrambled eggs, crispy edges on potatoes, tender waffles, scones with good crumb, Peets coffee or near equivalent etc. Saul's has good menu but uneven (at best) execution, Bette's is too long a wait, Rick & Ann's too precious, Westside has slipped--or perhaps I'm just getting too cranky in my old age. Also looking for places that serve breakfast all day, or at least well into the afternoon.
