Shot in the dark here...a friend remembers a Brazilian cookbook from years ago, in Portuguese and English, that had a recipe for some fish dish. He said the Portugues was probably better than the English translation but, being from N. Louisiana, you could argue about his own grasp of Shakespeare's tongue. Anyway, he recites the name as "baccajaca." It is not the salt cod. The particular detail he recalls is that one goes to the market, selects a nice live candidate of this mystery fish, and you t ake it home and dispatch it with a blow to the head using a particular tool reserved for this honor.
I have no idea....anyone out there got an idea? And apologies for any massacre of a legitamate and honourable fish's name.
