Branzino report

Jo | Nov 6, 2004 07:26 AM

Last evening we dropped in for a bite at Branzino.

As we arrived we were immediately greeted in the middle of the downstairs dining room by the hostess (who evidently didn't want us walking upstairs) She pointed to a table right next to the door and I inquired about the back room. I was told that there was no seating available there (it was 6:00)

The food was all in all pretty good with a few odd snafus. For starters we shared the roasted pepper soup with crabmeat. It was excellent. It is nice to see a chef making soup without cream, they used potato for thickening.

My husband had the mozzarella/tomato/pepper salad which was terrific and a very generous portion. I ordered the special arugula salad with goat cheese. It was good but there was no arugula on the plate. It was a spinach salad. I like spinach so there was no problem but this was odd considering it was a daily "special"

For entrees my husband had the sea bass which was perfectly prepared and excellent. I ordered the risotto with crab and shrimp. I rarely order risotto in a restaurant because it is frequently disappionting but we had previously had wonderful risotto here.

It was wasn't risotto! It was regular rice with a sauce mounded to look like risotto with the shellfish arranged around it.

The service was excellent and the atmosphere was very nice. If I went back I would stick to the fish and daily specials and avoid the risotto.
