I have noticed in the last year or so that waiters ask how you want your salmon done. This annoys me no end as I believe that fish is either done or it's not, that there is not medium rare etc. Am I just being a curmudgeon to be bothered by this? Usually this just happens when I order salmon, but the other day at Patois I ordered trout and was asked how I wanted it cooked. Wha??? The filet is barely 1/4 inch thick...is there really that much of a difference between medium rare and rare in so thin a fish? C'mon! At least with salmon (or mahi mahi, tuna or shark) I can understand since the fish is thick.
What do you think? Am i being ridiculous? or are they?
