How a Boston out-of-towner can surprise a LA Chowie - Chinese/San Gabriel?

I apologize for how broad my post is in advance.

I'm coming to LA the weekend after next and want to surprise my guests for their Anniversary.

They're foodies, may even look at Chowhound, but hey if they do, hopefully they'll appreciate the effort.

I want to take them to some off-the-beaten path, Chinese in San Gabriel Valley. They go out there all the time. I compiled this list from some postings. I'm not too interested in the big banquet hall places, which seem to be the first list.

I also think they're up on dumpling places so would like to do something different. So if people have any fresh ideas, or maybe can choose a fave from the below list, I'd appreciate it. Really have no other preferences as far as Chinese regional cuisine, as long as recommended and clean place (we went to one places on my last visit and there were all these gnats flying around, which would kind of break the anniversary celebration mood).
