We are Boston Chowhounds convinced that amazing exists food in the metroplex, however, we have not experienced it in our holiday visits over the past few years -- we have no real culinary memories from such a vital place.
Our relatives living there are not into chow sufficiently -- we keep ending up at either adequate Asian spots (buffets...) or the usual familiar, comfortable franchises or convenient strip mall spots.
After the big holiday weekend coming up, we are looking for recommendations of independent, ideally freestanding (not in strip malls) spots for lunch or dinner within a 20-minute drive of Richardson/Plano.
We are looking for relatively healthy, creative, very tasty food options and/or "best-in-class" ethnic experiences.
Budget:entrees ideally under $15, definitely not over $20. Wine list is unimportant. Our focus is on the food -- the service level is secondary, and ambiance is least important to us.
I have scoured the past six months of postings to develop an initial short list of potential options:
Sushi Sake (did enjoy a lunch there 3 years ago in old location)
El Pollo Fiesta
Any thoughts on these options or even better, your personal favorite recommendations, would be really appreciated -- we will gladly reciprocate for Boston visitors upon request.
Thanks in advance and happy holidays!
