Boston c-hound in London

So I've looked thru 8 months of posts and have decided Locatelli (sp?) isn't the happening place I should try when I'm there Nov. 15-20. Any suggestions for a not crazy expensive, fun/hip meal of continental/northern Italian food? I treated my hosts to dinner at Pharmacy in Notting Hill three years ago, we had a fun time, got good food and I didn't break the bank. Something along that line is what I'm searching for. And what were some of the "gastro pubs" people liked? Staying around Hammersmith but things don't have to be close by.

Is there still a glam/old punk nite at any of the clubs? It was in the north part of the city I think. Who's got the cheapest Docs? And if you were spending one or two nites away, would you choose Cambridge or Cardiff? I feel like I want to check out Wales but it might be dismal on a Mon. in November (not that London will be warm and sunny). Thanks in advance for your help.
