I'm sure there have already been long discussions about Bond Street but I just wanted to share my thoughts...
I went to Bond Street with a friend from Japan who wanted to experience Japanese/New York fusion cuisine and we were extremely disappointed.
We ordered the Omakase Sushi dinner and we got 8 very small pieces of sushi. The rice was quite hard and not flavored well and the fish did not have much flavor either. It all just tasted like wasabi which they put a generous amount on the sushi. For $40 it was NOT worth it at all. If it were 8 pieces of the most amazing sushi I have ever tasted, I would spend $40 and more. (As I have done in Japan)
Also, the waitress asked us if we preferred normal sushi or exotic sushi. We ordered the "exotic" sushi and ended up getting very normal sushi i.e., scallop, egg, hamachi, tako, lightly grilled tuna. What do they mean by exotic sushi? Did we miss something?
I must say, however, that the Uni Chawan Mushi was very good. There was a generous amount of uni on top of the chawan mushi as well as inside of it and the soy wasabi sauce was delicious.
I had heard that the service was quite bad but perhaps because we were there early (6:30pm on a Tuesday), our waitress was very attentive and quite helpful.
