Boma at Disney: Quick Report

As I had posted last week (and thanks to those who responded to my request for info), I made it to Boma at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge on Saturday night.

It may astound people, but yes, this place is pretty darn good. But, if you don't like kids, don't go. The place is swarming with 'em.

Among the best items on the extensive buffet were the soups, of which there were I think four to choose from. There was a gombo (AKA gumbo), ginger carrot, a seafood stew, and one or two more. These were quite flavorful.

Among the protein offerings I liked the tender ribs and something called "boobtie," described to me as an african quiche. It had raisins and other stuff in it. Would make a really good brunch dish for a group.

Among the salad standouts was a fennel & smoked fish combo, sort of like a ceviche but not really. If you just want a regular salad the dressings are very tasty. They include a chili cilantro and a mango vinaigrette.

There was a cold couscous (tunisian) and a hot couscous (moroccan). Both good. Also good among the side dishes were small felafel balls and a string bean/tofu curry dish.

Desserts were good but some were aimed at a kid's sweet tooth. Adults will like the banana bread pudding and the cassava pudding (really good, actually).

There's lots more but these are just some of the things I remember. For the unadventurous there are chicken tenders, fries, macaroni & cheese, and penne with meatballs.
