dinner tonite at this new 30ave rataurant. spanish name, chilean wines, brazilian owner, italian (leaning) menu. didn't expect much, having walked by for the last month or so and not seeing many patrons, but we were pleasantly surprised. a couple of glasses of very nice chilean cab and melot along with a dish of bread, along with 6 different condiments for dipping..balsamic, pesto, balsamic garlic and olive oil, tapenade, and a nice red tomato sauce with a spike of pepper. nice presentation and idea, although i would have liked a more rustic bread than the soft tomato-y bread served. apps were tricolore salad w/ goat cheese, endive, and greens presented bundled up in the endive and held together with a ring of tomato. the goat cheese was individually spread on each endive leaf..very nice. me love had ordered broccoli rabe croquets, but no go from the kitchen. waiter suggested the bruscetta crudo, with thin sliced filet mignon and red and yellow peppers, greens, tapenade on the same bread. huge portion and very tasty. then chicken with mushrooms and radiccio for me, not real exciting but definately prepared well, the smoky mushrooms were great, hey it's chicken..c had pasta paella..bucatini pasta with clams, small tender scallops, calamari and shrimp in a tomato sauce (white sauce also an option). she loved it.we also got a side of a vegtable terrine, not terrine in the usual cold fashion, but warm spinach almost creamed, with a mound of pepper/eggplant topped with bread crumbs and bowned on top. wow too much food, but it was all so good. no room for what looked like great deserts, but a special vodka/fruit drink on the house, so good we had two! just little shots of frothy fruit (raspberry, watermelon?) and vodka...yea a nice finish. 3 glasses of wine, 2 apps, 2 mains, 1 side and lagniappe..$70 before tip..and a very nice warm room..cept i wasn't crazy about the large piece of art on the brick wall...but check out the italian restaurant people potraits/caricature up by the kitchen. a nice find a block away from home, but i would like it in any neighborhood. freindly, gracious staff too. what more could you ask for?
