New (non-boba?) tea shop in Chinatown, etc.

Gary Soup | Dec 6, 200410:56 AM

This morning on my walk to work I spotted a "Grand Opening" banner on a place named "Natural Tea Shop". It promises "Famous Chinese Tea"..."Retail and Wholesale" and FREE TASTING! It had a couple of traditional teapots in the window and appears to be NOT yet another boba place (thank heaven for small favors!). I probably won't get there during business hours until next weekend, so if anyone checks it out, I'd like to know what you find. It's on Pacific just above Stockton, though it an address of 1199D Stockton.

In other notes:

Sam Lok has thankfullly NOT closed, despite my paranoia. Whatever invisible "repairs" it needed appears to have been made. I haven't stopped by yet during business hours but they seem to be set up for normal business.

The reconfiguing of Mon Kiang as a grab-and-go dim sum and deli appears to be a roaring success. They're already giving You's a run for the money, and the dim sum and by-the-pound foods look great. I've only tried the har gow and the pork siu mai which were both big and fresh tasting at 3/$1.10. Other things like the taro cake also seemed larger than usual. All traces of Mon Kiang's Hakka roots seem to have disappeared, however.
