Restaurants & Bars

Bloomington, IN

Our son is visiting from Portland, OR, and we're hitting all of his favorite spots. Welcome home dinner was at the Mikado (as always): super-crisp tempura, and lots of scrumptious sushi. You'd think that Portland would have better sushi than Bloomington, but we've tried and tried, and failed to find any.

Lunch yesterday at Bombay House. This is a must when The Boy is home: great naan, many fresh offerings on the buffet table. (And a HUGE price drop, due to new competition.) He was hoping for Butter Chicken, but the Chicken Korma on offer instead was first-rate.

Splendid lunch at Farm today. Son had the Chile/Espresso rubbed Lugar (bison) burger. Since he no longer eats beef, but was willing to try bison, I urged him to give it a go. He loved it, as well as the Chile/Cheese Fries. I had the Lentil Bisque (son and DH stole too many "tastes," followed by a lovely Panzanella with arugula, Capriole Chevre, and local tomatoes (which are finally making an appearance). DH had the BLT with arugula, avocado, chevre, and wasabi mayo. This sandwich is hard to beat, and is our daughter's favorite. (Unfortunately, she had to work.) This feast was topped off with a preview of the dessert the restaurant is serving as part of their "Cornfest" celebration this weekend: Housemade Sweet Corn Ice Cream topped with Caramel Corn. This was outstanding. Service was great, too. Overall, a most enjoyable meal.

The guys are off on a road trip this weekend, but next week we'll hit Finch's and Upland for lunch, I'm sure. Don't know yet where our son will choose to eat dinner out, but I'm sure it'll be great. We're on a roll.
