I just finished reading Now's review of new Bloor West village restaurant Bloom. Having dined there two weeks earlier, I couldn't disagree more.
Admittedly, the food is fine, but does not acheive the ethereal heights described in the NOW piece. What really guaranteed that I'd never set foot in the place again was the service; it was wretched. If you would like to be condescended to by an over-combed, uber-tanned, actor-in-waiting, then argued with by said waiter, wait for water refills, your table to be cleared, and then finally have to ask another waiter for your bill, then this is the place for you.
My dining companions and I were going to stick around for the dessert, despite being ignored all evening by the waiter, but did he ask us if we'd like to see a dessert menu, would we like some coffee? Of course not. What did he offer instead? A plaintive "Are you ladies okay? No, seriously you seem upset, are you okay?" And then he walked away, never to be seen again.
We managed to salvage the evening by heading over to EAT cafe on Dundas West. Not only were we treated to a huge slice of the restaurant's delicious chocolate bread pudding, we didn't have to ask the waiter for refills on our coffee. He just sensed that was what we required.
