Blanking out on restaurant ideas

I wonder if anyone else out there has a hard time coming up with restaurant recommendations in the heat of the moment. I mean, I follow the boards pretty regularly and I avidly read local restaurant news and reviews, but when I'm actually out on the street and looking for a meal, ESPECIALLY if I'm with friends who know I'm a food-obsessed type, somehow the pressure that I feel to come up with a brilliant idea causes my mind to scatter and I can't think of ANYTHING.

I have the same feeling when I'm trying to remember jokes. I LOVE good jokes, but when called upon to tell one, suddenly I can't remember a single one.

Of course it's always easy to remember the jokes and the restaurant you should have visited a few hours after the fact. I just have trouble thinking on my feet sometimes.

Anyone else similarly impaired, or have suggestions?
