Black Walnut ANYTHING in San Francisco?

Gary Soup | Jul 8, 2003 01:08 PM

I just had a bite of a coffee cake that had a flavor remeniscent of black walnuts. It wasn't, but it triggered a MAD craving for black walnuts.

I loved black walnuts as a kid; my grandfather always had a barrel full of unshelled black walnuts on the family farm, and it was worth all the effort it took to get the stingy little morsels of nutmeat out. Local creameries made black walnut ice cream, and it was commonly used in baked goods.

Where can I find ANYTHING with black walnuts in it in San Francisco? Where can I get black walnut nutmeats locally?
