Why is Black Pearl so bad?

Randy Brook | Jan 13, 2001 03:00 PM

Used to be that Black Pearl had decent, if not great, Chinese food. Living in the northeast corner of Seattle, it was also the only one that delivered in our neighborhood, Cedar Park.

Our last two deliveries were pathethic. It seemed like their supplier of spices had cut them off and they didn't care. We even tried a takeout from the original place on 35th Ave. NE. Same total lack of flavor. Requesting four stars for a beef dish got us a handful of pepper flakes (maybe two stars worth, if that) but still totally bland. Nor was there any hint of tree fungus flavor in the Happy Family.

Anyone know what happened to Black Pearl? More important, are there any good Chinese restaurants in the Lake City area or even up towards Lake Forest Park? (Judy Fu's is a bit far for a quick takeout.)
