Tim and I were lucky enough to snag the last 2 seats at the communal table during lunch last week at Bistro Jeanty in Yountville. I'd never been before and was not disappointed after all I'd heard from my dad who loooooves this place.
I had the sole with lemon and capers, served over mashed potatoes. The sole was perfectly crisp at the edges where it had been sizzling in butter and the potatoes were easily the best I've had in ages. Not too creamy or rich, and bursting with flavor.
Tim had the fish special, monkfish served in a fennel-infused tomato broth with tiny, handmade cheese raviloi and manila clams. The monkfish was perfectly cooked, not always so with a "stew"; the fish could easily have been overcooked.
We split an order of sauteed spinach and fought over the last bite. Chocolate creme brulee for dessert that even Simon would love. (g)
