Bishop -- Pino New Zealand Meat Pies

We spent a week in Bishop to explore the eastern Sierra. Had very good sandwiches and cookies (try Sierra Mud) from Great Basin Bakery https://greatbasinbakerybishop.com/, and good burritos from Mercado Mexico https://mercadomexico.business.site/.

But the culinary highlight were the New Zealand meat pies from Pino's in west Bishop. They use grass fed beef and lamb, and do a great puff pastry for the crust. Troy, the owner, is a CCA grad and spent years in New Zealand. We had lamb, beef, butter chicken, and lentil/roasted mushroom. All were excellent, and better than any I've had in the Antipodes. The butter chicken was a highlight, with a smooth subtle curry that reminded me of curry chicken puffs from a Chinatown bakery. The beef was in a rich gravy with peas and potatoes, like an elevated pot pie. If you're anywhere near Bishop, this is a worth a stop. They sell hot, cold, and frozen, and they reheat well. Check the hours because they are somewhat limited.
