LA chowhound here who will be in Boston for a few days at the end of the month. I'll search the board for the inexpensive options, but I need advice for a special birthday dinner for my wife. We are still grad students, so ethnic eats are our typical outing, but we like to splurge on the occasional fantastic meal (though I'd like to keep it below $200, if possible). Being from LA, we are not starving for high-concept fusion food, but we love restaurants that show great attention to detail, the kind of places with honest, great food, and no duds or too many trendy concoctions on the menu. French or Italian (pure or inspired), great seafood are all appealing (other suggestions welcomed). We will be staying near the financial district, so close places are a plus, but we will gladly go further. The help is very much appreciated.
