Tastings at Birchrunville are back! Chef Francis is offering a tasting menu again, but only on the first Tuesday of the month. Had the pleasure/honor to dine there this past Tuesday (01-Sept). The entire evening was incredible, and it started by the staff passing around summer truffles for the guests to see! Knew it would be a great meal after seeing and smelling those beautiful things.
Started with butlered hors d'oeuvres (at least 5 different items), then sat down for the 6-course tasting. One of our party of four had a shelfish allergy so there was one substitution for her.
Courses were: homemadde capelletti with duck in a sweet pea, chanterelle mushroom, ham, and sage broth (I think this also had sliced truffles but cant remember) - foie gras dumpling with pheasant broth and sliced truffles - sweet corn crab cake with champagne beurre blanc and champagne grapes (goat cheese and arugula salad substitution here) - wild strip bass and soft shell crab with tomato coulis and salsa crude - pheasant crespelle with trumpet mushrooms, pancetta, porcini risotto and sliced truffles - trio of chocolate (dark chocolate milkshake, milk chocolate peanut torte, and semi freddo white chocolate mousse).
While everything was incredible the ranking of the course for me was pheasant crespelle, foie gras dumpling, crab cake, duck capelletti, followed by the bass/crab. Can't wait to go back for the tasting again! This meal reinforced why Birchrunville remains our favorite restaurant.
