Binh Minh Quan Vietnamese restaurant Oakland

Yet again I went for lunch to Binh Minh Quan Vietnamese restaurant in Oakland for the nth time and yet again had an extraordinary inexpensive meal in an almost empty restaurant. Since other favorite restaurants of mine have closed for lack of clientele I decided to post about the place! (I actually went there the first time with a Chowhound group lunch!)

Probably because of the awful decor people prefer to go to the more americanized places next door. I wish we could convince them to clean up a little the entrance, get rid of the old pictures and a 4 year old review on the window....the broken toys and karaoke equipment also do not help...

The FOOD: Vietnamese pancake is perfect moist and crispy at the same time (how do they do it?), the crispy catfish I have only had before in the Mekong delta, Pork in claypot is moist and sweet with ginger, the lunch broken rice dishes are amazing with chicken, pork cake, etc...

Pho...I could live on just this one dish...

Roomate likes all the vermicelli dishes especially with imperial rolls. I like the salad rolls...

And then the specials: beef in Lot leaf, lotus root salad (only dish I had to get extra vinegar sauce for), venison cooked at the table, imperial beef sausage....

As you may notice, I would love it if we could save this family run marvel by letting others know about it! I have lost too many places and am determined to take anyone visiting me for at least one meal there (two is even better!)

Binh Minh Quan Vietnamese restaurant: 338 12th Street, Oakland. 510-893-8136
