I'm an L.A. Chowhound and former New Yorker who recently dined at the Biltmore and feel obligated to flame it and save fellow chowhounds their money. The food and service were terrible.
I ordered the veal chop, which was so salty as to be inedible. The surly waitress said the chef informed her the veal is soaked in brine, so I should make another choice if I didn't like it. I chose lamb and asked -- pointedly -- that the salt be spared.
The lamb was worse, like taking a swig from a salt shaker. My three dinner companions all sampled my meals and couldn't believe it. Whether the chef is incompetent or merely decided he was going to ruin my meal for complaining, I don't know. But both entrees made my lips sting, and this is no exaggeration.
The room is lovely and the bar scene is hip, but I'll never dine there again.
