Billy's Bakery, Chelsea

I had never been to La Bergamote, so I decided to check it out tonight. Walking from the 23rd Street E train station, I passed by Billy's Bakery on the way. And having missed the discussion of Billy's when it last appeared on this board (see link below), I didn't know anything about the place, but I made a mental note to check it out another day.

I walked the extra block to La Bergamote, and although everything looked spectacularly beautiful, nothing really appealed to me. So I quickly doubled back to Billy's, where I picked up a couple of cupcakes and a slice of chocolate cake with mocha buttercream frosting (around $7 for all three). I've only made it through the cake so far, but it was delectable. The cake was as rich and moist as I recall having experienced, without being overly heavy. It was not heavily frosted -- although the frosting was amazing -- but the cake certainly did not need it.

So now I'm just trying to recover from the cake -- and the two large glasses of milk I ingested with it -- so I can check out the cupcakes.

Billy's Bakery
184 Ninth Avenue (I think it was between 21st and 22nd, on the east side of the street)
