Big Wow (But Slow Service) at Mango II, Tewksbury

hiddenboston | May 10, 200811:51 AM

I went to Mango II on Route 38 in Tewksbury yesterday on the recommendation of someone I know who lives nearby and goes there all the time. It turned out to be an outstanding meal, though the service really put a damper on things...

After trying an excellent steamed shrimp shumai app, I ordered a dish called thunder noodles. It was extremely hot, but also had lots of flavor that came through the heat. The mix of wide rice noodles, ground chicken, eggplant, onions, peppers, and long beans, all in basil chili sauce, was pretty close to perfect, though as I found out later in the day, the name "thunder noodle" is quite an accurate one. The dining experience would have been a lot better, however, had the service been up to snuff. Though our servers were friendly and nice, service was slow from start to finish to the point of being really aggravating.

I'll definitely be back, mainly because there are so many dishes there I want to try (Myanmar curry noodles, emerald curry, wild boar basil, etc.), and I'm willing to give the service the benefit of the doubt; because the person I know who goes there said that they usually are a lot quicker than they had been yesterday. I'll report back the next time I go...
