Months ago I bought a cheap coupon for Joao's in Liberty Station. We had checked out the location and noticed a Portuguese trend to the menu, but decided against it that day because it was dead! Yet I was curious enough to gamble a few dollars. Tonight we finally tried it out--I wish I hadn't waited.
We had the fresh fish Portuguese style--$22.95 for beautiful, fresh sea bass. It came with a side salad with a delicious house-made balsamic dressing, and buttery mashed potatoes. We loved the Portuguese sauce of onions, cilantro, peppers and olive oil. I also tried the fried seafood combo--$16.95. The accompanying cole slaw was clearly house-made, unusual and tasty. Both the tartar and cocktail sauces were excellent and the fish, shrimp, scallops and calamari each came out cooked properly. I wish we'd been hungry enough to try the Portuguese fried donuts and house-made banana ice cream.
I noticed they were in the Community Magazine coupons good thru the end of February--we may make it back before it expires.
