The Big List of Peninsula Sushi, v. 4.0 -- finally

Sushi Monster | Apr 4, 2008 08:50 PM

4/4/08

Dear Chowhound friends,

Two years ago this week, I posted the first journal of my travels through the sushi-ya of the San Francisco Peninsula. Now, it's with bittersweet feelings that I announce that the long journey is over. Version 4.0 of Sushi Monster's Big List went live today at http://www.emeraldlake.com/sushilist....

The list stands at 62 restaurants (up from 44 in v. 3.0). That is every last sushi bar from Millbrae through Mountain View and Cupertino.

This will probably be my definitive last word on Peninsula sushi. In the timeless words of Commander Cody, that's all there is and there ain't no more.

The good, the bad, and the beyond-bad. I ate it all.

Longtime readers will notice some significant enhancements to the site for v. 4.0. There is a Google master map, featuring all 62 sushiya. You can see the map directly by going to
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&...

There are also map links at the top of each individual listing. Restaurants' Web sites are linked directly to the listing. You'll also see sidebar articles covering: the hallmarks of a quality sushi-ya; Japanese perspectives on sushi; and sushi customs. Finally, there is a comprehensive glossary and a list of common Japanese phrases that can be helpful in a sushi bar.

In previous editions, I've tried to post the main file to Chowhound directly. I'm sorry to say, at 85 pages that's no longer an option. It's just too large to work as a single post. (Plus, you'd miss all the sidebar articles, etc...)

What I've pasted below is the clip-and-save cheat-sheet. Tape it to your dashboard. Or wherever. The first number is the price of my average solo lunch, including a 20 percent tip. The second number is the price of an average pair of nigiri sushi.

Many thanks to my ace wingman KK and the other Hounds who I met along the way.

Enjoy
