Big Bone Barbecue & Wicked Wings Newmarket

Had takeout from here tonight. I remember the ribs being pretty good at the old Purple Pig on Wellington a few years back and I understand these are the same owners.

This place has the best ribs and wings I have had anywhere in the GTA. That's not necessarily saying much though as the status quo is generally poor, especially in the Newmarket Aurora area. But the food this place offers is a cut above the rest and worth trying if you live here or happen to be in the neighbourhood.

The ribs were big and meaty and had a nice flavour. B+.The original smoked wings were the best of all. smoked, and then finished on the barbecue. tender and juicy, nicely lightly charred with a wonderful sweet smoky flavour. These are what I will come back for. A++++

My wife wanted salad instead of fries, and they gave her a nice generous portion. The burger the kids had looked good. All portions were generous. The baked beans and coleslaw were unremarkable but fine. The fries are frozen - the type with the crispy crunchy coating. Nothing to complain about but next time I'll get a salad.

They were a bit rude when I asked for some tips on cooking ribs. I understand why they would be protective of trade secrets - but here's a suggestion guys: next time someone asks for cooking tips just say "sorry buddy", shrug and smile. Neither the door, the website, or their menu has any published hours. When I called ahead to order they didn't answer the phone. Admittedly it was busy, but that never stops my favourite Chinese takeout place from answering the phone and they get twice as busy. Great food (at least in comparison to most of the crap we get around here). I'll go back for the wings. Not for the hospitality.
