The thick rose lassi has a reasonable yogurty tang, but it's too syrupy and cloyingly sweet without the pleasant lightness of rose flavour.
Heavy sweetness is again evident in the dahi bhalla, initially overrun by the tamarind chutney swirled into the chilled yogurt. The flavoursome spices spoke up gradually as I reached them at the bottom of the bowl. Stirring is necessary. These lentil dumpling are enjoyable, with soft granular fillings and neat near hard nobs of lentils for a very enjoyable textural landscape.
Bhindi marsala is rather competently made, a simple (non-slimey) okra dish earthily spiced without much fanfare and punctuated by good onions. The side of lentils is lovely, cooked soft but not mushy. Served with fennel dotted basmati rice.
