We spent the cold and rainy Memorial Day weekend in the Berkshires, and thanks to all who posted recommendations for good dining.
Mostly wanted to report on an exemplary meal at Verdura in Great Barrington. This is a very stylish restaurant, seemed to be filled with other New Yorkers, and had a nice, friendly atmosphere. We started with excellent, moist and chewy Tuscan-style bread. My main course was a small serving of foie gras which was absolutely decadent; my husband had a large fritto misto with absolutely fresh fish that we both enjoyed. Main courses - gnocchi with vegetables and a whole grilled trout on a bed of white beans and salsa verde, were tasty and well prepared. Unfortunately, no one had room for desert. Verdura is a bit pricey but worth it. We look forward to trying other restaurants on a future trip to the region. Great Barrington really hops on the weekend, and just like New York, one needs to drive around a bit to find a parking space!
