Berkeley: Bayking Doughnuts and Pastries - nominated for best maple-glazed old-fashioned donut

This is a surprisingly good donut, a cut above the rest. The thick, creamy maple glaze has a deep maple flavor and I swear there might even be finely ground nuts in there ... but I'm not sure about that part.

A good dense texture for the old-fashioned donut with nice crumb and a little crispy exterior. There's a little spice in that donut too which is great with the maple glaze. (85 cents)

All this and all the pastries and donuts have no trans fats. However, the sugar will probably kill you. This is a sweeet frosting ... but good, you know? The kind that pairs well with a good strong cup of joe. Looking over on Yelp, there are reports of good coffee, but I didn't try it.

The baker was in the kitchen rolling out some sort of dough. This is nothing but a generic-looking donut shop and that was the only thing I tried, so I can't vouch for anything but that donut.

Being a bit dense, I didn't get the name till I started writing this ... Bay King ... baking ... I bow to you ... my royal donut-ness.
