Belmont Tavern

Last night friends took us to the Belmont Tavern in Bloomfield. And even though the orignal owner's funeral was that day, Anthony Cowboy Cuomo, it was open for business as usual.
We arrived early at around 6 and the place was packed. There were five of us and since the food is served family style, it is a good idea to order the same thing and reduce the number. For five we ordered for two, three of the entree.
First was a mediocre bread basket and then clams oreganato which were pretty good, then we had a plain tossed salad with oil and vinegar dressing...good. Our pasta dish was cavatelli with pot cheese which I thought was delicious. Our entree was their famous chicken savoy which appeared to be chicken pieces cooked in balsamic vinegar and ?...Also quite tasty. They don't have desserts and the red wine we ordered came chilled.
The strangest thing for me that 95% of the patrons were men...our hosts told us that it always like that...Who are these men and why are they all eating together?
I was glad to have gone to the Belmont Tavern for the experience alone...it was fun!
