Beer at Magnolia

Tonight I was in Magnolia, the brewpub at Haight and Masonic. The beer was good. I had Proving Ground IPA on handpump (cask conditioned ale) and Spud Boy IPA on regular CO2 dispense.

But it was only good. Somehow, they seemed to have lost passion for the beer, and it wasn't great as in years past. Now it is only good.

A little earlier in the evening I did have a fantastic beer at Toronado, just down the road at Haight and Fillmore. The beer was Greg by Rogue, and it was rich, hoppy, but not too heavy. I also had an Abbey-style Belgian ale by Pizza Port near San Diego, and it was good, not great.

There are a number of great beers at Toronado; you just have to deal with the spotty service. Too bad that Magnolia cannot seem to lift itself up a little higher.
