I host Thanksgiving every year and many of my relatives arrive on Wednesday evening and stay over. I usually do an appitizers/soup/sandwich casual meal to accomadate various arrival times (from 4pm to 9pm). For many years I have done a vegetable soup because we have at least one vegetarian in the crowd.
This year there will be no vegetarians for wednesday night.... so I am thinking of doing a beef stew. I will serve cornbread on the side. I consider myself a good cook when it comes to seafood and poultry, but don't have a lot of beef experience.
So... any beef stew advice? Crockpot vs stovetop. Best meat to use. Onions for sure...... celery, or other veggies? potatoes vs sweet potatoes. Herbs? (no bay leaves- yuck!).
