Becco - short review

ed | Feb 3, 2006 10:58 AM

Ok, loved it. First off, first impressions, I showed up pre-theatre, it was packed, without a reservation, they were VERY helpful finding us seats, even though we weren't all present. Super nice.

We did the pre-fixe deal, which is the salad or antipasto thing with three different pastas. The antipasto was so good, and I was totally surprised because it was brought out so quick, but didn't taste like it had been in the walk-in for hours. Constisted of 1 plate, with a little tasting of, carrots, eggplant, zucchini, green beans (with a light sauce), a medley of beans in a salad-type of thing, spaghetti squash AND two little bowls of octopus & king crab.

The three pasta main course:
- papardelle with tomato basil sauce ... simple yet quite tasty, it was my favorite of the three.
- potato gnocci with veal & peas ... pretty rich, the veal was great and the gnocci's were like little pillows.
- a corkscrew (forget the name) in a simple pesto sauce. it was my least favorite of the three, but still good regardless.

Didn't get dessert because we were in a rush, but the food AND the staff, including our waiter that made sure we were out in time for our show. We cut it to the minute.

Highly recommended ... i'd love to go back when I have more time and try something else besides the prix-fixe.

Yes, and you will have to embarrasingly tollerate the rubes asking the waitstaff if Lydia is in tonight.
