Back for my second visit to MacArthur Park this week (I guess Pico-Union is more descriptive now of the neighborhood) to follow up on a real head scratcher. The just opened Diamond Buffet & Grill has probably the nicest decor of any Chinese buffet in Los Angeles. High ceilings. Pastel lights. A humungous dining room chandelier. Crown moulding. Spacious layout. Somebody put big bucks into this. All for a buffet on the corner of 7th St. and Bonnie Brae. Given the location, you can imagine who the core clientele is, which also makes some of the food selections surprising. I pigged out on crispy salmon skin, and other surprising choices included pig ears, beef tendon, and fish balls. Several whole saba sliced into sashimi pieces. Weekday lunch is $8.99, 10 percent off for seniors. 1901 W. 7th St., opens at 10:30am for lunch. $2 valet parking if you don't want to risk street parking.
