Four of us went and will say in front I rate this experience at about 4.5 out of 10, so fans of this place need not read on.
First, as have not read this anywhere, have to say that the banquette seats are without doubt the most uncomfortable I'd ever placed the on, apparently designed by Torquimada, hard slatted wooden benches that slant upwards and are too long so there's no comfortable way to sit on them, and yes, I insisted we move to a table with conventional chairs that were also uncomfortable but in the same class!
I've read service is spotty...yup it was, for example it took 45 minutes for our waitress who BTW was nice and trying to do her best, to tell us the 'kitchen' had decided that the fish for the sashimi plate we ordered wasn't 'up to scratch', so why did it take 45 minutes to let us know---good question. Then the other courses came in bunches, oh well.
We had various things, including an order of edamame I've never understood the fascination with, veggie spring rolls that were just average, various sushi rolls that were pretty good and probably the easiest thing the restaurant can make, ahi tuna pizza 3 out of the 4 of us didn't think went together and the main courses. I opted for (forgot the Japanese name) noodles with pork belly and kimchee and was very disappointed, the noodles were thick and gluey and the whole dish tasted greasy. One other got the organic chicken and thought it was okay as did the one who ordered Japanese veggie curry, can't remember what the fourth person got.
We ordered 4 different desserts, mine, the lychee ices were 'nasty', the ice part was just that, ice and with a nasty after-taste, the lychees themselves okay.
The other desserts were all 'okay'.
Almost forgot to comment on the noise factor other reviews mention, it was BAD!
No, don't intend to repeat this.
