I was at Batifole last night with 2 friends. It's a small French restaurant on Gerrard E.
I had made reservations in advance, not thinking we'd really need them, but they were doing a good business last night, and many tables turned during the evening.
For apps, I had escargot. They were cooked in a lovely light cream sauce, and were great and not hugely garlicky. One friend had blue crab soup, which she wasn't crazy about, and neither was I. The other friend had wild mushrooms and spinach, which she loved. I didn't try it, but she's got a good palate!
For mains, I had skate. It was beautifully cooked, slightly crispy outside and tender inside. The bones had been removed, which makes for easy eating. Both friends had bass in a provencale style sauce, and the bass was lovely.
Desserts were crepes... I had the Jack Daniels caramel crepe, another had the lemon crepe. yum, yum, yum! Avoid the pot au chocolate. It was too much like the pudding you make in grade 8 home-ec (am I dating myself here?).
Pre-tip total for all three of us was just under $200, including one bottle of wine, apps, mains, desserts and coffees. And the service was very good.
