Bastille Day Pastis at Cafe de la Presse (SF)

After a rather disappointing lunch at Cafe Claude, three of us moved on to Cafe de la Presse. We scored the perfect sidewalk table on Grant Avenue to enjoy the sunny afternoon. Surrounded by Bastille Day celebrants, I ordered a pastis for a cooling gallic refresher.

I wished I'd looked at the drinks menu first, as pastis in various permutations is the lead aperitif on the list. It's served over ice with an accompanying carafe of chilled water. I would have preferred to add or not add ice myself. Yet, it did the trick of transporting me back to Provence on this French holiday.
