We stopped in basilico for happy hour to load up before the Enron movie at Cinema 21. We were the only people in there at 5:30 on a Friday evening. (That is a weird feeling on NW 21st wih all the hustle and bustle). The experience was pretty good. It was a heavily deep fried menu, but sometimes that is what you want. The arancini was filled with saffron risotto and fontina cheese. We ended up getting another round of that. The gnocchi was very cheesy but it hit the spot. They had a salad of fava's, peas, and mint which was light and refreshing. The calamari was also good. The batter that they use is a tasty blend with a nice salty kick. The highlight for me was the beer they had on tap. I have not seen it in pdx before it is called Speakeasy Big Daddy IPA. It is super hoppy and from San Fran. I would say this hh is every bit as good as Bastas/Lucy,s Table. It reminded me of a Bernies Southern Bistro done in Italy.
