Bargain breakfast in Mill Valley

I went to the Mountain Home Inn in Mill Valley for breakfast on Sunday. This Inn, which also has a small restaurant, is near Mount Tam and has a gorgeous view.

We sat outside on the deck and were overwhelmed by the view. The food was very good. A stack of blueberry pancakes had a center of molten blueberries and was served with honey butter, real maple syrup, and crispy designer bacon.

Another offering, ham and onion hash, was served with cheese-enhanced grits, two eggs, any style, a toated English muffin, and a berry puree.

I don't remember the other selections on the menu, but I was impressed by the price: $10 each, not including beverages, one of which was fresh squeezed blood orange juice. The coffee was served in very large glasses, which were repeatedly refilled.

This is truly a breakfast place, not brunch, as they only serve from 8am to 11am.

We did not have a reservation and were able to get a table on the deck (on a beautiful sunny day) without waiting. However, I would recommend making a reservation, as the deck is small and you might not be as lucky.

It took half an hour to drive there from San Francisco, a stunning trip. The whole thing felt like a little adventure (I don't get out of the City much).

With that view and setting, it seemed to me that this place is a great undiscovered bargain, considering what you would pay at Mama's on Washington Square or any breakfast place in SF with a view.
