There seems to have been a flurry of barbecue questions to the board lately, so I guess I'll throw mine into the fray.
Now that I live in the Triangle area, I'm putting together a birthday present for my father, a barbecue aficionado, to give him this weekend when my family visits from out of town. Of course, we'll hit some barbecue while he's here, and I could ship him some barbecue from one of the local places, but I wanted to give him something he can take home, appreciate, and really play with in his own smoker.
I envision a gift basket of sorts, sauces from the East and West schools of NC barbecue. I'm going to head out to Burlington to hit up Hursey's for some sauce (and a sandwich), which I understand to be kind of cross between East and West. Any suggestions for other standouts or do-not-miss sauces that I could pick up within a reasonable drive of the Triangle? I keep on getting stuck on sauces -- any other ideas of what I could put together to represent the NC barbecue experience?
Thanks, hounds, for any and all advice you can give!
