New Balbo Bay Club - Newport Beach

I had a great brunch buffet at the newly refurbished Balboa Bay Club (Henry's Bistro). Great for family with the standard breakfast entrees and enough gourmet recipies to please; 2" thick french toast, lox and cc on bite-size bagles, brie, prime rib, fresh plain steamed vegetables, seafood salads, shrimp the size of Shaq's thumb, mahi mahi in a very light crem dill sauce, chicken breasts in a very light wine mushroom sauce, fine decorative pastries - and that was not even half of what they had. The wait staff was present, but didn't talk much. Their attendance was exemplar. The Matre' D was possibly the kindest, warmest, smartest host I've seen in a long time. However, it is member or member-escorted only.

Yet, the part that is still under construction will be OPEN TO THE PUBLIC - always - both the lodging and two new restaurants. I hear the members are not real pleased about this and many miss the old elegant wood and darker decor, but I can not wait to try the new restaurants when they open. The location on the waterfront overlooking the yachts and the harbor, grassland, sand, and swimming - it was all so inviting.
