Balancing Food and Music???

Indy 67 | Oct 31, 201104:00 AM     1

We'll be making our second trip to New Orleans and we'd like to do a better job of balancing great food and great music. Food won out the last trip with only one night of music.

I'd love some suggestions for...

... places with great music that also serve great food. (I assume these will be casual, funky places)

... times to make dinner reservations at great restaurants that will still let us catch shows (Bonus points for restaurant and club combinations that are conveniently located near one another.)

... eating strategies. (Do we plan on having great lunches, focus on music in the evening, and accept the mediocre evening meals that come our way?)

"We" are a couple old to qualify for the phrase "of a certain age." We can't tolerate smoking but we don't mind crowded or loud. We love roots rock and southern rock. We enjoy classic Preservation Hall-style jazz and zydeco.

On our first trip, we ate at Commander's Palace, August, MiLa, Stella, Luke, and Cafe du Monde. (We rarely ate lunch on our last trip. The ability to eat three large meals is a casualty of aging.)

Thanks!
