I have two of the better rationalizations right now for indulging pretty much any dessert interest I might have; ain't I a lucky goil?
We tried Konditor Meister on Saturday, buying literally one of everything, and were disappointed. All were pretty, but pretty much all were lackluster. My IDs might be a bit off, but the strongest seemed to be the cheesecake, a lattice-y cookie type thing, and a close cousin to the profiterole. Tarts were generally marred by heavy tasting crusts, and, well, the tiramisu slices were best recommended by being easy to serve. But, then again, so are hockey pucks. A cream cheesey lemon roll was just bizarre.
On Sunday, brain addled by the time change, I headed out to Petsi Pies: scones were good, muffins were yummy-tender, moist, yet full bodied. Maybe my brain is still addled, because I want very much to describe them as "muscular." Definitely not the bastard cousins of cake mix as so many are. Unfortunately, at 10 am there were no pies or tarts.
I have gleaned from previous posts that I should be checking out Clear Flour and The Modern; if I can reconcile myself to serving something flaky/drippy to people in their fancy dress, we'll head over to the Reef for baklava, too.
Am I missing anything else for carry out treats (particularly petite pastries-but, hell, who am I to discriminate?) I particularly want to find the posting again about Ricotta cake. My browser isn't coorperating, dag nabbit.
Sorry for the meandering post, my brain is disenfranchised this week....
