As a recent (2 years) resident of Westchester, I have sampled the bagels from bagel stores in Hastings, Dobbs Ferry, Irvington, Mt. Kisco, Tarrytown, Bedford Hills and Briarcliff Manor and I can say with all honesty (after all isn't honesty the one thread running through all the postings?) that they taste like paste-flavored claydough discs--with the Hastings bagels a slight cut above. Remember that criticism of chinese or indian restaurnts that the food in all the restaurants tastes like it was made in the same kitchen? Even Zaro's in Grand Cent tastes mighty fine in comparison. It's too bad, since there is obviously lots of competition which theoretically should elevate the quality. A new one is set to open in Chappaqua. I can only hope.
Anyone have better luck? It is amazing what you can take for granted living in NYC.
