Can bad wine be good vinegar?

Tedmeister | Jul 2, 2003 04:37 PM

I've got a half bottle of red that has been sitting on a shelf for months. Opening it, I discovered a distinct vinegar smell. About to pour it out, I thought: Hey, maybe, instead of buying a bottle of red wine vinegar when next I'm out, I'll just use this. What do you think of that idea? How different is bad red wine from good red wine vinegar? Thanks.
